In May of 2015 a group of dedicated student leaders within the Faculty of Arts came together to create the Ryerson Arts Society (RAS), a society to represent the student body, and to uphold 3 pillars: Reputation, Academia, and Professionalism. The student leaders created a referendum to determine if the student body would levy the society with a yearly membership fee. The successful referendum was held in November 2015, and now moving into the Fall 2016 / Winter 2017 academic year the society is ready to create meaningful experiences for its general membership.

Students in the Faculty of Arts have expressed their interest in scholarships being made available with a portion of the funds. Students also expressed concern with the lack of research assistant positions for undergraduates. In response, the RAS combined these two elements together to create the Ryerson Arts Society Undergraduate Research Assistants program.

The Arts Undergraduate Research Assistants program (AURA) will support faculty members with the creation of opportunities by fully funding 16 student research positions. Through the AURA program, students will assist academic leaders with their research for 8 hours a week, over the course of 12 weeks during the Fall and Winter semesters. The ideal position will include skills training, research and analysis, and an opportunity for students to present findings.

The Ryerson Arts Society will provide 100% funding for research positions offered through the AURA to Faculty of Arts undergraduate students.
