We are pleased to announce that the Law Society at Ryerson University will be hosting our first ever Mock Trial competition on March 5th 2016 on campus at 10:00am – 4:00pm.
Participation is open to all students at Ryerson University. Participants will be placed in teams of two and will be asked to assert a position on a legal issue which will pertain to a civil law matter.
Each team will be provided with all the necessary legal documents, resources, and relevant legal excerpts roughly a week before the trial. Prior to the trial students will also be provided with one legal analysis tutorial led by practicing legal professionals and one tutorial focusing on oral advocacy led by seasoned speakers. On the day of the trial, participants will present their case to a judge and jury, in either one or two rounds.
During the event, snacks and lunch will be provided.
Please note there will be a $20 fee for participants.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to
– learn about civil procedure
– develop their oral advocacy and legal knowledge
– network with similarly interested students and legal professionals
– receive a certificate for their participation and improve their CV
Winners will also receive an award plaque and cash prize.
