1430176542_agt_announcementsA message from Dr. Marcia Moshé, Associate Dean, Students & Undergraduate Studies: As you may know, Naeem Ordóñez resigned from his position as the Faculty of Arts Student Life Coordinator to take on the position of Assistant Dean, Student Life and Leadership at the University of Toronto’s Chestnut Residence. Although we were sad to see him go, it is a wonderful opportunity for him and we wish him all the best in his new position.   I am pleased to announce the hiring of Avala Moore as the Arts Student Life Advisor.

Avala will working with us from April 27th to September 4th to lead the planning and implementation of our two major events for new students: the 2015 Arts Enrollment Workshops and Arts Orientation.  This  will include recruiting and training the Arts student volunteer crew as well as collaborating with Arts faculty, staff, and course union leaders.  She will also provide support to student groups and course unions.

Avala, who is a 2012 graduate of Ryerson’s Arts and Contemporary Studies program, was an active student leader during her undergraduate studies.  She was an executive member of the ACS Course Union as well as an active member of numerous campus committees including the White Ribbon Campaign , Arteries Undergraduate Research Conference, TEDexRyersonUWomen, and Human Rights Watch. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the University, Avala was a 2012 recipient of the Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award. Avala is also experienced in planning and coordinating large-scale student events. As the Faculty of Arts Student Life Assistant from August 2010 to May 2012, she helped lead the 2011 Arts Enrollment Workshops and Orientation.  She was also employed as an Orientation Crew Lead for Ryerson’s 2013 Orientation, where she was responsible for interviewing, hiring and training over 100 volunteers as well as managing all orientation leaders. Avala is currently in the Masters of  Divinity program at Emmanuel College, University of Toronto, where she continues to be actively engaged in student life.
